If you've walked through Beaches Town Center recently, you might have noticed signage and a large banner reading "We believe you! Three beaches. One mission. End sexual assault". A result of a $10,000 Jacksonville-funded campaign sponsored by city counsel member Rory Diamond and The Beach Cities of Jacksonville, April has now officially been recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Jacksonville.
In preparation for Spring Breakers and the likes, signage has been hung up in local bars, restaurants and hotels to promote the campaign and the work of the Women's Center of Jacksonville (WCJ), a private, nonprofit Jax-based organization that offers advocacy, support and a 24-hour rape crisis hotline.
Women and men in need are encouraged to call the hotline at (904) 721-7273. This hotline is the only certified rape crisis center in Duval, Baker and Nassau counties, making it all the more important. For more info about WCJ and to learn more about the amazing work they do, click HERE.
